The All Yonkers Youth Association (AYYA) Soccer Program begins on the first Saturday after Labor Day and runs through the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Our in-house program meets on Saturday mornings at Redmond Field in Yonkers. Based upon evaluations conducted on the first Saturday of the season, we divide our players by age and general ability (age groupings may change at the discretion of the Soccer Commissioner; the age cut-off date is 12/31); the teams consist of both boys and girls. Small Fries (ages 6-8), Juniors (9-10) and Seniors (11-12)meet at 9 a.m.; Pee Wees (ages 4-5) meet at 11:00 a.m. Graduates (13+) play travel and the scheduled varies. We organize our sessions in two-hour segments: the 1st hour is dedicated to warm-up, instruction and basic drills, and the 2nd hour is devoted to a one-hour game consisting of two 25-minute halves. A referee is provided at the Senior level. Trophies are awarded to all participants at the end of the season.
AYYA may also field boys' and girls' travel teams that compete against other clubs in the Yonkers area. Travel teams normally play on Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons (depending upon league scheduling). Teams will be formed if coaches are available. Typically, the teams are grouped by ages 7-8, 9 - 10 11 - 12 and 13-15 for boys. Girls brackets are 7 - 9, 10 - 12 and 13 - 15. Travel teams can be co-ed. Travel team members are permitted to participate in the Saturday morning in-house program.
AYYA will provide uniforms (i.e.,shirts/shorts/socks) for the players and equipment (goals/goal nets, goalie vest, goalie gloves, cones) for the coaches. Players must wear protective athletic supporters with hard or soft cups and shin guards or they will not be allowed to play. Cleats and/or mouth guards are recommended. Players must bring their own soccer ball. 4 - 5 use a size 3, 6 - 8 use a size 4, 9+ use a size 5 ball.
The All Yonkers Youth Association (AYYA) Basketball Program generally begins play on the first Saturday after New Year's Day that schools are open and runs through the last Saturday in March. All teams, with the exception of travel teams, are coed. Prior to the start of the season children from the ages of nine and up are evaluated in December for the purpose of placement onto a team; every attempt is made to establish teams within an age bracket that will be equitable in overall ability (the age cut-off date is 3/31). Pee Wees (ages 4-5) and Small Fries (6-8) meet on Saturday mornings. Juniors (ages 9-11) also meet on Saturday morning with an optional midweek evening practice. Seniors (12-15) convene on Saturday morning with team practices during the week. The Senior season concludes with an end-of season in-house tournament. Additionally, AYYA may field girls' and/or boys' travel team, or tournament teams, if there is sufficient interest. There are referees for the Junior and Senior games
With each subsequent age-group level there is an increased emphasis on developing individual skills and teamwork. Drills and practices are conducted in the first hour of the Saturday session followed by a game against another in-house team in the 2nd hour. Trophies are awarded at the end of the season.
